Intent

Our geography curriculum at Holy Cross has been structured around a series of big ideas, which range from ‘dangers and disasters’, to ‘global development’ and ‘ice environments’- this aims to ensure that our curriculum is broad and balanced.  Through exploring one place-based ‘big idea’ each term pupils will become experts in a range of challenging and ambitious sub-disciplines and master key geographical skills.  By following this approach, we aim to equip all pupils, regardless of academic ability or background, with foundation skills and agency, so that they can delve deeper into the wide-ranging discipline that is geography.  Only then can pupils understand, appreciate and protect the world that God has created for us.

“The study of geography is about more than just memorising places on a map.  It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents.  And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together”.
Barack Obama
