Pilgrim Mass for the Year of Jubilee - Order of Service
All pupils in Year 8 and above, who were baptised in a Catholic church, are invited to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. We follow the Archdiocesan programme of preparation, which begins with the teaching of the theology of the Sacraments in Year 7. In Year 8, pupils register online and then continue their preparation with priests and catechists in the parishes, ensuring that they feel welcomed and that they understand the important role they have to play in their church community.
Confirmation Masses usually take place in June, with families of parishes coming together. In 2026, 92 young people from 10 parishes were confirmed. We were privileged to be joined by Archbishop John Sherrington at a Confirmation Mass at the Church of St Mary and St Catherine Labouré in Euxton, by Archbishop Emeritus Malcolm McMahon at St Mary’s in Chorley, and by Bishop Tom Neylon at St Joseph’s in Chorley.
