Our school mission statement promotes the truth that fullness of life is to be found when Christ is at the centre of our lives.  Our vision, as a Catholic school, is Jesus Christ and our mission is to take him to each and everyone of the children in our care.

Christ and the teaching of Christ is at the centre of all that we are and all that we do.  Holy Cross is a genuine community of faith.

The Catholic life of the school permeates all areas of the school, from lessons in class, to interactions in communal areas to involvement in extra curricular activities.  We view every child as unique, made in God’s own image, and we encourage and support every pupil to become the very best version of themselves.  We do this by developing pupils’ moral principles, promoting tolerance and becoming advocates for social equality and Christian values.  Our pupils are encouraged to live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching in all that they do.

Religious icons can be found throughout the school.  Displays of work in RE are of very high quality and can be seen in classrooms and all around the school, including the school’s main reception area. Each class has a prayer focus area, with a liturgical cloth in the appropriate colour.

The Christian values at the heart of our Catholic faith incorporate the British values and we aim in everything we do to further each child’s sense of commitment and responsibility to themselves, to others and in the wider world.

Religious Education

Religious Education is taught as a compulsory subject at Holy Cross, dedicating at least 10% of our curriculum time in accordance with the Bishop’s directive.  At key stage 3 we follow the Religious Education Directory and base our scheme of learning around the needs of our pupils.  At key stage 4 pupils follow both Edexcel A: Catholic Christianity and Judaism and Eduqas B: Catholic Christianity and Judaism.  The department comprises of five specialist teachers who are dedicated to our pupils and passionate about teaching high quality Religious Education.
