Educational visits are a cornerstone of the Holy Cross experience, enriching our ambitious curriculum and ensuring that every pupil benefits from meaningful learning beyond the classroom. Through cultural, historical, geographical, spiritual and careers-focused experiences, pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and cultural capital needed to achieve, belong and thrive in an ever-changing world.
As part of our commitment to equity and inclusion, every pupil is guaranteed a minimum educational visit entitlement. This includes Warwick Castle and Lowe House Retreat in Year 7, Liverpool’s Metropolitan and Anglican Cathedrals in Year 8, a live theatre production in Year 9, post-16 college visits in Year 10 to support informed future choices and raise aspirations and Year 11 Prom.
Alongside this entitlement, pupils can access an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities. These include visits to the First World War battlefields of France and Belgium, language and cultural visits to France and Spain, expeditions to Iceland, and historical visits to Berlin and Krakow. Closer to home, pupils undertake fieldwork in the Lake District, participate in spiritual retreats, attend theatre and cultural events, and engage with employers and businesses to enhance their understanding of future careers.
In the 2025–2026 academic year alone, Holy Cross offered over 100 educational visits and enrichment experiences, reflecting our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for every pupil. Through this rich programme, pupils broaden their horizons, develop a global perspective and create memories that will last a lifetime.
You will find an educational visits pathway that details where the approved visits take place within each subject area. Additional visits will also occur at pertinent times within the curriculum.
