Taekwondo Star

Holy Cross student Ella has a big year in 2018 as she could represent Great Britain at the Youth Olympics.

Taekwondo star Ella, 15, took part in the biggest event of her career so far at the Paris Open Championships.

Ella won a prestigious silver medal in the -52kg category in what is a world ranking event and that means she will be shortlisted for the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

“One of the criteria for the GB team was to medal at a world ranking event and I have done that so I have put my name in the frame,” said Ella who is part of Premier Taekwondo in Huddersfield which has Great Britain Talent status.

“I have competed abroad before but the Paris Open was the biggest competition I have been involved in because it was a world ranking event.

“I had three fights and beat girls from Canada and France but lost to a girl from Spain on points in the final.

“To compete at these events, you need certain skills such as being a Black Belt and some experience on the international scene and I did enjoy it.

“I am also in the frame for the Junior World Championships in Tunisia in April in 2018 as well. It’s a massive year as I am also studying for my GCSEs.”

Ella was crowned British Taekwondo Champion last year in the -51kg category.
