Our Facilities

The School and its Facilities:

Holy Cross is situated on an attractive site on the south-western side of Chorley and is accessible via the B5252 Chorley link road, known as Myles Standish Way.

Much of school was refurbished in 1999, as a result of a move to a single site which now contains very pleasant and well-equipped buildings. There have been further developments over recent years with the addition of a new maths and drama block which opened in September 2017. This project also included the addition of 2 top quality science classrooms. More recently, there has been a complete refurbishment of the food and music areas of the school, with these areas opening in September 2018.

Our facilities include:

  • A modern food technology room.
  • 3 design and technology workshops.
  • An art and design area.
  • 8 science laboratories.
  • A suite comprising 3 rooms equipped with computer access via broadband connection.
  • A large glasshouse.
  • An extremely well appointed music suite.
  • An excellent, state of the art drama studio.

The sporting facilities include:

  • Sports hall.
  • Multi-purpose fitness suite.
  • Full size, all weather, floodlit synthetic pitch for soccer, hockey and netball.
  • Changing rooms.
  • Tennis and netball courts.
  • Grass soccer and rugby pitches.

Additional facilities:

  • Chapel.
  • An outstanding library/resources area with additional computer facilities.
  • Green spaces for pupils to enjoy and cultivate plants, vegetables and fruits.

Future Developments

As we continue to modernise, classrooms are now being equipped with large 65 inch monitors and teaching staff utilise hand held tablets to project onto the screens. Just over 50% of our classrooms contain these monitors and there are plans to equip the others in the near future. This makes it much clearer to see the displays and enables the teacher to have a more interactive role with the pupils.
