Lucy competed for Chorley Gymnastics Club in the USAIGC/IAGC World Championships in Florida.
The 15-year-old secured a prestigious gold medal on the floor with a score of 9.45 and then made it a double gold with first place on the bars with 9.0 in the international competition.
Over the six disciplines, she finished sixth overall, achieving 35.75 out of 40 in the 15 and over category.
“It was a great experience,” said Lucy. “We had to get a certain score to qualify for the competition and 11 gymnasts from Chorley Gymnastics Club secured a place.
“Our flight was paid for but we had to raise money for our hotel so we raised funds through bag packing in Boots and various events at Chorley Gymnastics Club.
“It was tough, the Americans were strong and it’s the first time I have taken part in an international competition. There were around five countries taking part.
“I have been practising gymnastics since I was 11 and have taken part in competitions all over England, but never abroad and America was a good place to start! They are the best medals I have ever won.”
While excelling at gymnastics, Lucy’s first love is dance.
She carries out lyrical and contemporary dance at LJ Dance, she carries out modern, ballet and tap at Gillies Mar-Jan School and is also at Preston Youth Dance Company.
“I practise gymnastics for over four hours a week and then attend dance four times a week so I am busy. I want to dance when I am older though and gymnastics helps me.”
